My trip Essay SIMRAN: Good morning Mr. Keith, teachers and my dear friends, we are here today to share our experience on our eventful trip to France. On the 4th of this month, 41 French students from grades, 8 to 11 and 5 dedicated teachers embarked on their journey to, Le Centre Mediterranean Detudes Francais or CMEF, located in Cap Dail, Nice for a week long programme.Our days started with us, waking up to a breathtaking and scenic view of the Cote DAzur, very often we would watch cruises sailing peacefully in the ocean. We would then gather in the spacious campus cafeteria, to guzzle down some yummy breakfast. After satisfying our appetites, we would dash off to our entertaining, interactive and educational French lessons, where we were divided into 3 batches (A1, A2 and B1) according to our level in French. The classes were fun filled, enjoyable and most of all, highly enlightening. Throughout our classes we conversed in French and only French. Our classes included us carrying out role plays, learning about France, French music and even French culture. The A1 class even got to go grocery shopping, where they bought goods with the help of only French words. After the first half of our class we were given half an hour of recreation where we all chatted away, flaunting the new, fancy French words we learned. We would then run uphill, to get back to our classes! ALI: Once we concluded with our classes, we would run down to the cafeteria to have mouth-watering and delicious varieties of Continental food. Lunch, although delightful was often eaten in haste as many wanted to play an intensive and dedicated match of football, which we would eagerly look forward to everyday. While we played, the others were supportive and boosted our spirits, by cheering for us during our matches. We even had an exciting football tournament on one of the latter days. After spending an hour daily on football we began our excursions, under the leadership of Tolgahan and Astrid, our friendly, talented and understanding coaches. PARTHA: Every day, we visited a different town, encountered different people and we got the opportunity to taste some scrumptious French cuisine, like the Croque Monsieur for example. We went to places like: The Picasso Museum and Jean Cocteaus Museum, where we got to see artwork beyond our explanation. We also went to educational and informative places like, The  Glass Factory and The Perfume Making Factory. In Fragonard (the perfume making factory), we were taught the art of making perfume. There we were introduced to various fragrances of perfume and their components. Altogether, we travelled to Nice, Monte Carlo and Monaco, which are few of the most stunning, brilliant and lively cities in France, with picturesque beaches and monumental places. SANJANA: After couple of hours we would return to the centre and rush to the cafeteria. When done with dinner we would all form our own individual groups and play a variety of games, like: Uno, Truth or Dare, and sometimes we would even start our own flash mobs. An hour later we would be called back to the cafeteria which would have gotten transformed into a Disco room or a Games hall, by the very dedicated staff at CMEF. Each day we would have a fun, gripping and spirited activity to perform, for example, we would have a really competitive music quiz, a lesson of French folk dancing where we did manage to teach the others our traditional dances without fail and we also had other exciting activities like crepe and waffle making, or I should rather say crepe and waffle eating. NEUSHA: After these activities, nearing our curfew time, we would all return to our rooms to catch some sleep and prepare ourselves for the next day .During this trip we got the opportunity to interact with two other groups, the Italians and another Dubai based school. This trip was a wonderful experience for us to have, and we have made memories that will remain with us for forever. The best part of this trip was the special bond created among the 41 students of various grades which we would have never got to know otherwise. We, the students, and our fantastic teachers, had become a little French family! To be honest, we did not know we were making memories, we thought we were just having a good time! Salinas V. Texas Essay

Facts: Two brothers were shot and killed in their home. Police recovered shotgun shells that led them to investigate the petitioner. The petitioner handed over his gun and agreed to go to the police station for questioning. The petitioner answered all of the questions the police had, but when it came to the question about the shells matching the petitioner’s gun he went silent. So the police asked a few more questions to which the petitioner answered. The petitioner did not testify at the trial, so the prosecutor used his silence as evidence of guilt. Procedural History: Petitioner was convicted of murder and sentenced to 20 years. This was directly sent to the Texas State Court of Appeals who rejected the argument. The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals took up the case and affirmed the same judgment. Issue: Was the petitioner’s Fifth Amendment right violated when prosecutor’s used his silence as evidence of guilt, when he was not in custody and had not had his Miranda rights read to him? Holding/Rule: No, because the petitioner did not express that he wanted to invoke his privilege to stay silent, and not testify. Reasoning: Neither of the two recognized exceptions to the invocation requirement applies here. One is that a petitioner is not required to take the stand and assert the privilege against self-incrimination at his own trial. The other is that a witness’ failure to invoke the privilege may be excuse where government coercion made his forfeiture of the privilege involuntary. It is undisputed the petitioner’s interview with the police was voluntary. He admitted that he was free to leave at any time, so nothing prevented him from saying he refused to answer the police’s questions. The third exception was not even considered, because the requirement for this one would be the witness would remain silent and decline to give an answer that the officers  would suspect incriminating.

1 Excess weight has negative effects on children from early childhood throughout life; therefore, research regarding causes as well as prevention and treatment of childhood overweight is needed. Childhood overweight reflects the convergence of many biological, economic, and social factors. Each of these factors affects family food choices, food preparation, and food consumption, and together they contribute to the complex problem of overweight in children. No single intervention is likely to produce large reductions in the prevalence of overweight children, 2 but choosing to breastfeed an infant rather than use formula is one factor that may prevent subsequent overweight. 3 Recent studies have reported that longer breastfeeding is protective against childhood overweight. 4-9 In 2004, Howell Wechsler, acting director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Division of Adolescent and School Health, testified before a congressional subcommittee that the "promotion of breastfeeding and efforts to increase its duration" is one behavioral strategy for reducing rates of overweight and obesity in children and adolescents. 10 Data from 2002 revealed that breastfeeding rates among recipients of benefits from the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) lagged behind those of non-WIC recipients by more than 20% in the hospital and at 6 months of age. 11 Kansas data showed similar disparity between in-hospital breastfeeding rates (initiation) and breastfeeding rates at 6 months (duration) for WIC infants, with only 19.6% still breastfeeding at 6 months, below even the national rate for WIC infants of 22.1%. 12 Breastfeeding is initiated in this population, but it is not continued. Grummer-Strawn and Mei reported that pr olonged breastfeeding was associated with a reduced risk of overweight in non-Hispanic White children. 4 Their study analyzed linked data from the Pediatric Nutrition Surveillance System (PedNSS) and the Pregnancy Nutrition Surveillance System (PNSS) for 7 states. The PedNSS and PNSS receive data from publicly funded health and nutrition programs, including WIC. Little was known about breastfeeding and childhood overweight among Kansans, particularly low-income Kansans. Kansas was not included in the 2004 study by Grummer-Strawn and Mei. 4 Therefore, we designed our study to address the paucity of data for Kansas by analyzing linked data from the PedNSS and PNSS to determine whether longer breastfeeding was associated with decreased incidence of childhood overweight at the age of 4 years among a Kansas WIC population.
